We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Innovation and Patent Strategist with 3–5 years of experience in managing intellectual property (IP) portfolios, identifying patentable technologies, and fostering innovation. In this role, you will work closely with R&D teams to identify new innovations, strategize patent filings, and ensure intellectual property aligns with the company’s strategic goals. Duties and responsibilities
Innovation Management:
- Collaborate with R&D teams to identify, document, and evaluate innovative ideas for patentability and commercialization.
- Develop strategies for maximizing IP value and ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Monitor trends and advancements in relevant fields to identify innovation opportunities.
Patent Portfolio Management:
- Manage the lifecycle of the company’s patent portfolio, including filing, maintenance, and renewal processes.
- Draft and review patent applications in collaboration with patent attorneys and technical teams.
- Conduct freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses and patent landscape studies to mitigate risks.
Compliance & Legal Coordination:
- Ensure all IP activities comply with local and international regulations.
- Liaise with legal teams to handle IP disputes, challenges, and licensing agreements.
- Support R&D teams in maintaining detailed documentation for patent filings.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement IP strategies that align with the company’s innovation roadmap.
- Identify opportunities for licensing, technology transfer, or collaboration with external partners.
- Prepare reports and presentations on IP strategy and portfolio performance for stakeholders.
Training & Advocacy:
- Educate and train employees on IP best practices and innovation processes.
- Foster a culture of innovation by organizing workshops and ideation sessions.
- Advocate for IP awareness across the organization.
Skills and experience
Must-Have:
- 3–5 years of experience in IP management, patent strategy, or innovation processes.
- Strong understanding of patent laws and regulations, including PCT and regional patent systems (e.g., USPTO, EPO).
- Experience conducting patent searches, drafting claims, and working with patent attorneys.
- Background in aerospace, software, AI/ML, or related technical domains.
- Excellent analytical skills for evaluating innovation potential and conducting FTO analyses.
Good to Have:
- Knowledge of technology transfer and licensing agreements.
- Familiarity with digital tools for IP management and patent searching (e.g., Questel, PatentScope).
- Certifications in IP management or related fields (e.g., Certified Patent Valuation Analyst, WIPO certifications).
- Understanding of cybersecurity, digital twins, or sustainability-related technologies.
